Abyss Eye Reveals: Mega Chandelure ex & Fossil Pokémon
Japan’s next major set — Abyss Eye — is in full reveal mode, and the latest batch of cards brings fan-favourite Ghost types and fossil Pokémon into the Mega Evolution era.
New Cards Confirmed
From the latest reveals on PokéBeach (May 9, 2026):
- Mega Chandelure ex — Ghost/Fire typing with what looks like a powerful ability-based strategy. Chandelure has always had a cult following; a Mega version could push it into competitive relevance.
- Rampardos ex — Fossil Pokémon getting the ex treatment, with high-damage output balanced by recoil or drawback mechanics
- Bastiodon — The shield-faced fossil returns as a defensive wall, likely with damage-reduction abilities
- Relicanth — Ancient fish Pokémon with utility potential
- Gwynn — New Trainer card, likely supporting the Ghost-type or fossil archetype
Ghost-Type Support
The set appears to have a dedicated Ghost-type theme, with Chandelure as the centrepiece and new Trainer support. Ghost has historically been underrepresented in competitive play, so dedicated support could shake things up.
Chinese Mega Darkrai ex Promo
Separately, a Chinese Mega Darkrai ex and Bastiodon promo were revealed on May 11. These are expected to make their way to English releases — likely as promo cards tied to future products rather than main-set inclusions.
What It Means for Players
- Ghost-type decks may finally get the tools to compete with established archetypes
- Fossil Pokémon returning to competitive relevance is a nostalgia play that the community will love
- If Abyss Eye follows the Mega Evolution block pattern, expect an English adaptation announcement within 4-6 weeks
For Collectors
Japanese sets in the Mega Evolution block have been strong performers. If Abyss Eye introduces a new chase rarity tier (like the Mega Attack Rare from Ascended Heroes), sealed boxes will be worth pre-ordering. Watch for the full set list to confirm chase cards.
